The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Rabiu Shuaibu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State.
INEC's returning officer, Umar Sani, shared the results late on Saturday after the voting took place across the constituency that day.
Official results show that Mr Shuaibu received 35,356 votes to claim victory.
In contrast, Lawal Haruna from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) got 268 votes, while Abubakar Muhammad from the Labour Party (LP) received 98 votes.
While announcing the results, Mr Sani, who is a professor, said the APC candidate met all the legal requirements to be declared the winner.
"That Rabiu Shuaibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected," Mr Sani said.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) did not put forward a candidate for this election.
Earlier, the state chairperson of NDC, Usaini Mairiga, told PREMIUM TIMES that the party chose to skip the bye-election to save its political energy for the 2027 general elections.
Mr Mairiga mentioned that opposition parties often struggle to win bye-elections because of intimidation and tactics from the ruling party.
He said this situation influenced the NDC’s choice not to field a candidate for this election.
He also confirmed that Mustapha Bala will be the party’s candidate for the Warawa/Dawakin Kudu federal constituency in the 2027 elections.
