The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly called cooking gas, has dropped in Enugu. This was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

A NAN reporter checked the market price of cooking gas in Enugu on Friday. They found that many refilling points had lowered their prices.

Some sellers of cooking gas said the price drop came from better domestic supply, cheaper depot prices, and more government help.

Paul Okechukwu, who runs a cooking gas refilling depot in Amechi, Enugu, said prices are lower compared to June.

Mr Okechukwu noted that the price was between N1,700 and N1,900 per kilogram in June. Now, it costs between N1,400 and N1,500, depending on where you are in Enugu.

Another seller, Obiora Ani, located in the Uwani area, confirmed that the price drop was happening across the country. He said the government's quick action helped.

Mr Ani mentioned that the price cut has boosted his sales, as more people are coming to refill their cooking gas cylinders.

"When you go to other places in the country, the price of cooking gas has reduced as well, not only in Enugu," he said.

Many Enugu residents are happy and relieved about the lower prices. They are asking the government to bring it down further to below N1,000.

Nkechi Orji, a hair stylist at Achara Layout, said the cheaper cooking gas has reduced her use of firewood at home.

Mrs Orji now cooks most of her meals with cooking gas.

"I am still appealing to the authority to further bring down the price.

If it comes down further, things will be better for everyone because the high cost of energy is seriously affecting all of us in Nigeria negatively," she said.

Joy Nwafor, who owns a restaurant in Garki, also urged the government to reduce the price more. She wants food vendors and restaurant owners to stay in business.
