The Delta State House of Assembly has kept the state’s 2025 budget at N1.179 trillion. This is despite a recent review, with lawmakers saying the changes did not raise the approved spending.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reminds us that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori asked the assembly on Tuesday to approve a revised 2025 supplementary budget. This budget includes N510.9 billion for recurrent spending and N669 billion for capital projects.

During the plenary on Friday, Speaker Dennis Guwor shared this news while discussing the Revised Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2025, along with another amendment bill.

Mr Guwor explained that the supplementary appropriation was meant to adjust existing funds. This would help focus money on important projects without changing the total budget size.

He mentioned that the revised supplementary budget shows the assembly's commitment to making sure resources go where they can make a big difference across the state.

According to the speaker, the total 2025 Delta budget remains N1,179,228,818,719. This is the same amount, even after the adjustments from the supplementary budget to meet new priorities.

Mr Guwor praised assembly members for their hard work, cooperation across party lines, and careful review of the bills. This helped ensure the successful passage of the executive bills.

NAN also reports that the assembly passed changes to the Public and Private Properties Protection Law, Cap P26, Laws of Delta State, 2006. These changes aim to improve property protection.

The speaker said the new law would give better legal support for protecting public infrastructure, private investments, and property rights. This is also meant to promote peace and security throughout the state.

He pointed out that the amendment would strengthen actions against vandalism, illegal occupation, and destruction of property. This should help create a safer space for investment and economic growth.

Mr Guwor added that these legislative actions show the assembly’s commitment to good governance, protecting people’s interests, and supporting government policies and programs.

The speaker, who is also the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, thanked lawmakers for their efforts during the legislative process.

He assured the people of Delta State that the assembly would keep focusing on laws and policies that boost development, improve lives, and strengthen governance in communities.
