The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four people over an armed robbery in Alade-Idanre, a community in Idanre Local Government Area.
The police shared this information in a statement on Friday from their Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh.
The suspects are named as Alex Omotayo, Adeleye Bolu, Osho Ibukun, and Nura Umar.
Jimoh said, "The command has arrested four suspected armed robbers linked to a burglary gang operating in Idanre and nearby areas. The operation also led to the recovery of illegal firearms, showing the command's commitment to keeping lives and property safe in the state.
"The investigation began after Abayomi from Alade-Idanre reported on June 15, 2026, to the Alade/Atosin Police Station. He said unknown people broke into his cocoa store at night and stole a bag of cocoa worth N1,250,000.
"After careful intelligence gathering and investigation by the detectives, they identified the suspects as Alex Omotayo, Adeleye Bolu, Osho Ibukun, Nura Umar, and other accomplices who are still at large. Based on credible information, police operatives arrested the four suspects and started further investigation into the gang's activities."
Jimoh also mentioned that during the investigation, they found out that on March 13, 2026, Alex Omotayo had allegedly "invaded the Idanre High School premises armed with two firearms and threatened to kill a security guard whom he accused of shooting at him the previous night."
"This information showed the suspect's violent nature and led to a search of his house. The police got a search warrant and went to his home, where they found one cut-to-size single-barrel firearm and one locally made revolver hidden in the premises.
"The recovered guns are now with the police as evidence and will be part of the ongoing investigation," Jimoh said.
He added that the case and the four suspects have been sent to the Anti-Cultism Unit in Akure for further investigation. He said they are still working to catch the other members of the gang and ensure that all found guilty face justice.
The police also urged the public to stay alert and keep giving timely and reliable information to them, emphasizing that community cooperation is key to keeping the state safe.
