Several worshippers have been kidnapped during Friday prayers at a mosque in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attackers reportedly entered the mosque while people were observing the Juma’at prayer and took away an unknown number of worshippers.
Details about what happened, like the exact location of the mosque and how many people were taken, are still not clear at this time.
This incident comes as security issues rise in Borgu, which has seen many deadly attacks and kidnappings in recent months.
In January, at least 30 people were killed when gunmen attacked Kasuwan-Daji village in Borgu. Many others were also kidnapped, and the attackers set houses and the local market on fire.
A month later, gunmen hit three communities in the area, Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, and Pissa. They killed at least 32 people and abducted several residents, according to police and local sources.
In June, another attack occurred in Pissa, where suspected bandits killed three people and burned down several houses.
The repeated attacks have raised fears about the safety of communities around Borgu and the larger Kainji Lake area.
Authorities have not yet made an official statement about the mosque abduction on Friday.
More information is expected as security agencies work to find out what really happened and where the victims are.
