A man's body was found beheaded on Tuesday at the Permanent Site of the University of Jos in Plateau State. The attackers reportedly took the victim's head with them.

This shocking discovery led to increased security on campus as police began looking into the matter.

Many students and staff at the university, including the Chief Security Officer, Mr Agama Tangni, confirmed the news to PUNCH Metro in Jos.

Tangni stated that the deceased was not a student or staff member of the university.

“I can confirm that somebody was beheaded here. He is neither a student nor a staff member of the university,” he said.

He added that although the victim had no official ties to the school, he was familiar to those in the area because he often came there for farming.

“The identity of the deceased is known because that particular spot where he was beheaded is where he used to farm. He usually came there very early in the morning,” Tangni explained.

The CSO mentioned that early findings indicated the victim might have been specifically targeted.

“I don’t know whether the assailants had been monitoring him, but from the look of things, they targeted him, beheaded him and went away with his severed head,” he said.

He also noted that the deceased's family had been notified. The body has been taken to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Tangni confirmed that the university management was informed and would soon communicate with the university community.

At the time of this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not released an official statement about the incident.

Attempts to reach the command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as his phone was off.

In the meantime, security around the university’s permanent site has been strengthened as investigations are ongoing.
