A Nigerian man has been sent back from Indonesia. He could not show a valid travel document or residence permit to immigration officers.
On Thursday, ANTARA News reported that the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre in Riau Islands Province announced the deportation. The Nigerian was one of two foreign nationals deported on Tuesday, August 18, from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang.
The report stated, "The Nigerian national could not show immigration officers a valid travel document or residence permit, violating Article 71(b) of the Immigration Law."
Before he was deported, the Nigerian was held at the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre. There, officials checked his identity and prepared the necessary travel documents.
I Wayan Putu Wiadnya, an official from the detention centre, explained that the deportation was an administrative action against foreigners who broke Indonesian immigration rules. He said, "We returned them and ensured the entire process was conducted professionally, orderly, safely and accountably."
The Nigerian was deported along with a Palestinian man who also broke immigration laws in Indonesia. The Palestinian was deported for overstaying his visa, which goes against Article 78(3) of the Immigration Law.
Erybowo Radyan Asmono, the Head of Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Centre, mentioned that these deportations are part of efforts to enforce immigration laws. He wants to keep order regarding foreigners in Indonesia. He said, "Immigration law enforcement is essential to protecting national sovereignty, but it must remain firm, professional and guided by humanitarian principles."
Asmono emphasized that all foreigners must follow Indonesian immigration laws. He added that any violations would lead to necessary actions by the authorities.
