The Osun State Police Command has warned people and groups not to try to take over local government areas in the state by force.

This warning came in a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, representing the Commissioner of Police (Election), Samuel Erale.

The police said they got reports about plans by some individuals and groups to take control of local governments even though the issue is still in court.

They stated that such actions would be seen as self-help and would disturb the peace.

“No individual, political group, or association has the right to use force or self-help to take control of any Local Government Area or public institution while judicial proceedings are ongoing,” Ojelabi said.

The police urged everyone involved to be patient and let the courts handle the situation according to the law.

They also warned that anyone trying to forcibly occupy or disrupt local government facilities will face arrest and prosecution.

“Any attempt to forcibly occupy or disrupt Local Government facilities will be seen as a serious breach of the peace and will be dealt with according to the law, including arrest and prosecution of those involved,” the statement said.

The command also called on parents, community and traditional leaders, political and youth leaders, and other stakeholders to advise their supporters against actions that might disturb the peace and security of the state.

Erale congratulated Osun residents on what he called the successful and peaceful conclusion of the recent governorship election. He praised everyone for taking part in the democratic process.

He urged residents to stay calm, respect the law, and allow the judicial process to work.

“The Police will continue to protect lives and property and maintain peace and order throughout the State,” Ojelabi said.
