Troops from Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have caught a suspected foreign drug courier. They recovered a large amount of illegal drugs, alcoholic drinks, and other banned items meant for terrorists in the Lake Chad Islands.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday, July 9, 2026, while heading towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Capt. Mohammed Goni, the acting Military Information Officer at the Joint Task Force, shared this information in a statement on the Nigerian Army’s X account on Friday.

Goni explained, "The operation took place during an intensive search along the Maiduguri, Monguno route, where troops stopped a suspicious vehicle heading to Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State."

The suspect is identified as Mrs Rachael Samuel, 48 years old. She is a Chadian national from Kelo in Chari-Baguirmi Province, Republic of Chad. She was caught transporting the illegal goods.

Initial reports show that the drugs were meant for places in the Lake Chad Islands, which is known for housing terrorist groups.

The military recovered several items from the suspect. These include seven bundles of suspected cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilograms, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, known as “Suck and Die,” one carton with 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic drinks.

They also found a mobile phone, two ATM cards, personal belongings, and cash.

The military noted that the total value of the recovered items runs into millions of naira.

"The suspect is now in military custody. All items seized have been secured and will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution under the law," the statement said.

The military emphasized that this interception shows Operation HADIN KAI’s commitment to disrupting terrorist supply lines in the North-East.

"Intelligence reports have shown that terrorist groups often use illegal drugs and intoxicants to boost their fighters, reduce fear, and enable violent actions. By catching this shipment before it got to its target, the troops have interrupted a key part of the terrorists’ support network," the statement added.

The Theatre Command praised the troops for their alertness and professionalism. They assured the public that efforts against terrorists and their partners will keep going.

They also urged the community to keep sharing timely and reliable information with security agencies. This will help in restoring peace and security across the North-East.
