The Yobe State Government has discredited a viral social media report alleging that Boko Haram insurgents were advancing towards Damaturu, the state capital.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), described the report as false and misleading, attributing it to the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to cause panic.

The report, titled “Immediate Security Alert”, had circulated widely online, claiming that suspected terrorists were on the move towards Damaturu. However, Abdulsalam categorically stated that the information did not originate from any official security source, including his office.

“The public should disregard the report in its entirety as it has no basis,” he said. “It is fake, and clearly intended to create fear and confusion among residents.”

He urged the people of Damaturu and the state at large to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that the security situation remained under control.

Abdulsalam reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, stressing that all security agencies were actively maintaining surveillance and collaborating to ensure peace across Yobe State.

He also warned against the spread of fake news, noting that such actions could incite unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.
