A House of Representatives member representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya, Kabiru Rurum of Kano State, has called for the total ban of hunters’ movements from the northern to southern parts of the country.

“That movement is no longer feasible in present-day Nigeria,” he said.

He stated this at Torankawa village in the Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State, on Thursday, shortly after visiting the family of the affected hunters killed in Uromi, Edo State.

The lawmaker noted that “Present-day Nigeria requires people engaged in businesses or traditions that do not create suspicion or lead to uncertainties.”

Rurum, who donated N5m to the families of the deceased, also promised to commence the building of Islamiyya primary and secondary schools in the area for the children of murdered hunters.

He said, “Carrying weapons and moving around with them from one end to another in this sensitive period of insecurity in the land will surely send a bad signal and result in chaos, therefore, our hunters should henceforth stop it.”

“Just recently, over 30 of my Rano hometown hunters were apprehended in Ondo State. I had to personally go and see the governor and show evidence that they are not criminals before he ensured their release.”

He added that if those people in Ondo who arrested the Rano hunters had behaved like the Uromi mob, the story would have been different.

The factional state chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Masaud Eldoguwa, said the Uromi incident should serve as a lesson to guard against recurrence.
