The Jigawa State Government has launched its 2025 annual animal vaccination campaign with a target to vaccinate over 950,000 livestock across the state.

Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Mahmud Danyaro, confirmed the development in Dutse on Thursday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

According to Danyaro, the campaign will cover 500,000 cattle, 300,000 goats and sheep, and 150,000 chickens.

He explained that the vaccination drive will protect cattle against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia, goats and sheep against Peste des Petits Ruminants, and chickens against Newcastle Disease.

“The exercise aims to improve animal health, thereby ensuring the production and consumption of safe meat and milk within and beyond the state,” he said.

Danyaro urged livestock owners across Jigawa to cooperate with veterinary officials and present their animals for vaccination.

“It’s critical to protect animals from preventable diseases. We call on all livestock owners to make their animals available,” he added.

He also emphasised that the vaccination is being conducted free of charge and will last for two weeks, having commenced on Tuesday.
