As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark World Malaria Day 2025, the National Orientation Agency has called for renewed efforts to eliminate malaria across the country.

With this year’s theme, “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” the agency stressed the urgent need for individuals, communities, and institutions to join forces in preventing and treating malaria, which remains one of the leading causes of death, particularly among children under five and pregnant women in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Friday, NOA encouraged Nigerians to adopt preventive measures such as sleeping under insecticide-treated nets, eliminating stagnant water, and seeking early medical care instead of resorting to self-medication.

The agency also highlighted its ongoing efforts through grassroots engagement using Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOs), in partnership with traditional rulers, youth, and faith-based groups, to spread awareness and promote healthy practices in local communities.

“World Malaria Day is a reminder, but the fight must be daily,” the NOA stated, urging all Nigerians to take ownership of the battle against malaria and work together towards a malaria-free Nigeria.
