The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria, CCSON, has warned politicians in Akwa Ibom and their supporters to desist from heating up the political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition noted that if they fail to halt their selfish and ambitious activities, it may ground the course of governance in the state.

National Coordinator of CCSON, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, who spoke on behalf of the group during a press conference in Uyo on Monday, also frowned at the continuing media trial alleged to have been instigated by politicians against Governor Umo Eno and his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel.

He said though Akwa Ibom citizens have the right to hold government and its officials accountable, such complaints should be channeled to the appropriate investigative authorities, and not in the media.

Isong noted that said such sustained attack demarkets the state and called for a ceasefire.

Parts of the statement read, “That CCSON frowns at, and issues the red flag against, that section of the political class in Akwa Ibom State for piling up unhealthy and fractious climate of politicking in the State towards the 2027 general elections.

“That CCSON urges politicians across party lines to close ranks and work towards the unity, progress and development of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.”

Isong stated that CCSON is committed to the sustenance of democracy, good governance, rule of law and transparency and accountability in governments across the country.
