Former Lokomotiv Moscow defender, Brian Idowu has singled out Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye for praise following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Idowu said Okoye saved Eric Chelle’s men against Russia during the encounter on Friday evening.

Recall that Okoye made series of impressive saves as Russia broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Semi Ajayi’s own-goal gave the hosts the lead.


The Super Eagles equalized in the 71st minute, thanks to Tolu Arokodare’s strike.

Speaking after the match, Idowu, who was born in Russia, gave kudos to Okoye.

“I think Russia played better and deserved the victory more,” Idowu told Match TV.

“At the end, the Russians actually had more scoring chances, but their execution let them down a bit and Maduka Okoye saved and bailed out the boys very well.

“At the end, there were some fights and moments,” he added.
