A fuel station located along Old Akute Road in Obawole, Iju Ishaga, within the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, was engulfed by fire on Wednesday.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has confirmed the incident, which occurred at around 4 pm.

Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion that drew the attention of passers-by and residents in the K Farms Estate axis.


The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, also confirmed the development.

He noted that officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were promptly deployed to the scene.
“Our people are on ground, seems the fire started from a building behind the filling station,” Gawat stated.

Initial reports suggest that the fire may have originated from the underground fuel tanks, rapidly spreading across the facility.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service cordoned off the station to prevent public interference and to ensure a safe containment effort.

The spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed that the inferno was successfully contained before it could spread to adjacent properties.

By 6 pm emergency responders had brought the situation under control, with the affected area secured to prevent further risk.
