The leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has blamed saboteurs for waves of campaigns of calumny against the state-owned oil firm.

This comes as the Senate on Public Accounts on Thursday gave NNPCL’s leadership, led by its Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, a ten-day ultimatum to appear over N210 missing funds in the firm’s audited account.

Similarly, there have been concerns about the shutdown of the PortHarcourt Refinery on May 24, 2025, months after it was rehabilitated.

Reacting, in a statement on Friday, Ojulari, the head of NNPCL, said it has uncovered an emerging campaign of calumny being waged against it by what it described as a syndicate.

According to NNPCL, the saboteurs are working to discredit the firm’s leadership and distract the organisation from transforming into a corruption-free entity in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision.

“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports, curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians.

“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change—clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution.”

“We expect a surge of defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead,” the company stated.
