President Donald Trump of the United States of America appears to have blamed his predecessor, President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the ongoing war.

The US President suggested that Biden and Zelenskyy already knew what the outcome would be by trying to go against some agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

Tensions erupted into open warfare along Russia’s border with Ukraine on 24 February, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced a “special military operation” in the eastern regions of the neighbouring state.

Among other reasons, Russia is said to have taken the decisive action to extinguish a threat to its national security, according to Putin.

And Trump while addressing the press at the White House on Thursday, said that Ukraine’s move to join NATO might have triggered the war.

“Russia has said from day one, long before President Putin, they’ve said they cannot have Ukraine be in NATO,” Trump said.

“They said that very strongly. I actually think that was the thing that caused the start of the war. Biden said it and Zelenskyy said it.”

Asked if he is more keen to speak to America’s adversaries than allies, as he is being accused by European leaders, Trump added, “We told the European Union and NATO people you have to pay more money, because it’s unfair what you’re doing … at the same time, we had a very good conversation with President Putin.”
