United States Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth has claimed that Ukraine and its allies have successfully stopped Russian President Vladimir Putin from getting the primary goal of his full-scale invasion by capturing the whole of Ukraine.

Hegseth said this when asked whether Putin would be “emboldened” by a negotiated settlement to end the war between Russia and Ukraine that awards him large swaths of Ukrainian territory.

According to him, whether or not Putin is “emboldened” by a negotiated settlement depends on NATO’s response.Thankfully the bravery of the Ukrainians and allies that came alongside them, especially early in the war, deterred and defeated Vladimir Putin from achieving what he wanted, which was all of Ukraine,” Hegseth said in Warsaw, Poland, on Friday.

He added, “If NATO’s response to the situation is to truly increase capabilities, truly increase inputs and spending to think more like Poland, to think more like the Baltics, who are closer to the threat… then I don’t think… Putin will be emboldened by this outcome.”

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine without provocation in February 2022 when NATO membership was a distant prospect.

Several causalities have been recorded has a result of the war between both neighbouring nations.
