No fewer than 23 people have been confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred at the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover, Hotoro area, Kano, on Friday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, confirmed the figure in a statement issued after the accident.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, the Sector Commander, U. Matazu, has dispatched an investigation team to determine the cause of the accident.

Labaran stated that a preliminary crash report indicated that the accident involved a DAF trailer carrying goods and a total of 71 passengers. He attributed the crash to dangerous driving due to speeding, which led to a loss of control.

He said, “Upon receiving the distress call, the FRSC Kano rescue team, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, promptly moved to the scene to carry out a rescue operation and restore normal traffic flow.”

He added, “In response to the tragic incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC Kano Sector Command, CC U. M. Matazu, has dispatched an investigation team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the crash.”

According to Labaran, the injured victims were immediately evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for urgent medical attention.
