Two suspects have been arrested for gang-raping a 12-year-old girl and inflicting serious injuries on her in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The suspects, Bawa Saidu, 22, and Weti Saleh, 25, of Jalingo village, were apprehended by operatives of Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on February 15, 2025 at about 3:30 pm local time.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, indicating that the raped victim received immediate medical attention, while the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Damaturu for discreet investigation.

In another development, the statement said operatives of A Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, arrested three suspects, found in possession of a dismantled motorcycle and other stolen items.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

“In a separate incident, Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters collaborated with vigilante to rescue Hassan Alh Yau, 15, of Kojolo Hamlet, Dadawel Village.

“The victim was kidnapped on February 12, 2025, by criminal elements demanding a ransom.

“The successful rescue operation resulted in the recovery of dangerous weapons, including a single-barrel gun. The suspects fled after a gun duel, leaving the victim and other belongings behind.
