The leader of the Izala Movement in Nigeria, Abdullahi Bala Lau, has stated that they are still proceeding with the plans to hold the national Qur’anic convention, despite the announcement of its postponement.

Bala Lau made this known during an interview with DW Hausa, where he clarified that the Muslim Affairs Council of Nigeria, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, was responsible for organizing the event, not the Izala Movement.

He explained that initially, it was planned for 30,000 people to attend the conference, but later, over 500,000 Qur’an reciters expressed interest in participating. This, he said, was the reason for the delay in the event, in order to create a better plan for organizing the event without the problem of overcrowding.
