The Kano State Government has launched the Kano State Advocates Against Thuggery as part of its Safe Corridor Project–Kano Model, an initiative designed to rehabilitate repentant political thugs and empower at-risk youth.

The inauguration ceremony in Kano gathered key stakeholders, including security agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), community leaders, and media representatives.

Speaking at the event, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, described the project as an intervention strategy approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in August 2024.

He explained that the initiative aims to rehabilitate and empower former political youth influencers.

Waiya reaffirmed the government’s dedication to eradicating political thuggery and fostering a safe, inclusive environment for youth development.

He stressed the need for collaboration between government agencies, CSOs, and the private sector to ensure the program’s success.

Representing CSOs, Comrade Idris Ibrahim Makama pledged full support for the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in implementing the initiative.

At the event, repentant youths expressed their commitment to leaving behind criminal activities and contributing positively to Kano State’s development.

The Safe Corridor Project underscores a collective effort to curb crime, promote peace, and support youth empowerment, demonstrating that meaningful change is possible with the right support and opportunities.
