At least, nine farmers have been killed in an attack by armed bandits on Karaga village, Bassa Ward, in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

The attack, which occurred late Wednesday night, also resulted in the abduction of six individuals and the theft of numerous cattle in the Farin-Doki community, also within Shiroro LGA.

Residents revealed that the assailants stormed Karaga, targeting victims in their homes. A local source, speaking anonymously, confirmed that vigilantes were still searching for more bodies in the surrounding bushes.

“So far, nine bodies have been recovered, but we cannot confirm if there are more casualties,” the source said.

Following the assault on Karaga, the attackers proceeded to Farin-Doki, where they kidnapped six people and rustled a significant number of cattle belonging to local herders.

Another source disclosed that the bandits also raided Juwu-Farin-Doki in Erena Ward, though no casualties were recorded in that incident.

“The situation in Shiroro LGA remains alarming. Communities are living in constant fear due to these recurring attacks. The killings in Karaga and the raid in Juwu-Farin-Doki highlight the urgent need for enhanced security measures in these areas,” the source added.

Authorities are yet to comment on the incident.
