A Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, has dissolved a three-year-old marriage between Amina Abubakar and her husband, Jamila Sani.

The court granted the divorce due to lack of love and maltreatment, after Amina alleged that her husband neglected and beat her and their child.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, in his judgment, held that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.


He therefore dissolved the union on the grounds that both parties had lost interest in the marriage and had mutually consented to its dissolution.

“Since both parties have agreed to the dissolution, and the respondent has also supported his wife’s request for divorce, the court grants the petition,” the judge ruled.

Amina, who married Sani under Islamic law in 2022, told the court that their union was marred by constant quarrels and lack of care.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, ordered Amina to observe a three-month waiting period before remarrying, in line with Islamic law.
