The Research Development Center is set to hold a forum to review laws related to Muslim social relations in its operational states. The aim is to strengthen the rights of women and children.

Dr. Taofik Abubakar from Bayero University, Kano, who leads the center’s delegation, revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at his palace in Zaria.

Dr. Taofik emphasized that the center has sponsored Islamic scholars and clerics to Al-Azhar University in Egypt to gain deeper knowledge of Islam’s stance on women’s rights and protection against abuse.


He debunked the misconception that Islam supports domestic violence, stressing that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) prohibited such acts.

The center plans to engage with Kano and Kaduna state leaders to review and strengthen Muslim social laws, ensuring they are fully enforced.

In response, Emir Bamalli urged authorities to revisit abandoned social laws in Kano to improve women’s rights in Northern Nigeria. He highlighted the weakness of women’s legal protections and called for urgent action to formalize these laws across the entire country.
