The deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow’s “main task today” remains “inflicting maximum defeat” on Ukraine.

According to Newsweek, Medvedev, a former president and prime minister of Russia, stated this on Wednesday on Russian social network VK.

His comment is coming amid efforts by the United States President Donald Trump to push for a swift end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.


Trump had said he thinks his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, wants peace.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also said he wants “guaranteed peace”.
