The Controller of Ogun I Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Idiroko, Mohammed Shuaibu, has insisted that the command won’t give a breathing space to those engaging in practices that pose threat to the nation’s economy and security.

Shuaibu reiterated this warning on Thursday while handing over 3,365 parcels and 75 sacks of cannabis weighing 3,103.3kg to the state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Also handed to the NDLEA at the Abeokuta office of the customs command were 88 cartons of codeine cough syrup.

Shuaibu explained that the haulage of these narcotics was part of the N279,595,038.00 contraband impounded across the state in the past two weeks.

He explained that “Other seizures made during this period include 2,145 bags of foreign rice which is more than four trailers’ load, 612 bales of second-hand clothing, 843 used tyres as well as 6,625 litres of Premium Motor Spirit which has been auctioned due to its combustible nature.

“The Duty Paid Value of the entire seizures amount to N279,595,038.00. The command also generated a total of N9,694,072 as revenue from baggage assessment and auction sales of the PMS.”
