The Peoples Democratic Party has announced that the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee will be inaugurated on Thursday.

In a statement on Monday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the committee will oversee the party’s activities in the region in line with the PDP Constitution until a new Zonal Executive is elected.

“The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party will, pursuant to its powers under the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), formally inaugurate the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee of our great Party on Thursday, March 13, 2025,” Ologunagba stated.

“The Committee inauguration is billed to be held at the National Executive Committee Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, at 11 AM prompt,” he added.

The formation of the caretaker committee follows a leadership crisis in the zone.

The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt had previously issued a restraining order preventing the PDP and the National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Dan Orbih, from conducting the zonal congress.

The case, PHC/551/CS/2025, was filed by PDP members from Rivers State, Tonu Ejiogu and Field Nkor.

Despite the court order, the PDP proceeded with the congress on February 22, where Orbih emerged as the winner with 174 votes. Other elected officials included Alabah Turnah (Secretary), Evelyn Weke (Treasurer), Ijeoma Obani (Financial Secretary), Timothy Okwoche (Organizing Secretary), Iyrneri Briggs (Legal Adviser), Prince Etim Isong (Publicity Secretary), Loveday Abaribote (Auditor), Phenomena Esubok (Woman Leader), and Patrick Asuquo (Youth Leader).
