Owerri – The State Executive Council (SEC) of the Labour Party, LP, on Saturday suspended 30 of their members for three months over plot to remove the state chairman of the party, Calistus Ihejiagwa.

The members took the decision in a meeting of the SWC members in Owerri, after a motion moved by Richardson Madumere of Ezinihitte Mbaise Area and supported by John Nwaigwe. This was in reaction to the earlier move made by some members of the party who suspended the state chairman.

They also moved a vote of confidence in the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure and the state executives of the party led by Ihejiagwa.

Those affected by the suspension are Paulinus Udechukwu, Emeka Ihejirika, legal adviser of the party and twenty eight others.

Ihejiagwa among other things said the suspended members “Were involved in a high level of indiscipline. They disparage the name of our party, instigated crisis and their action brought ridicule. As a result of this, they have been suspended for three months. We will give them a second fair hearing to come and hear their grievances. A five-man committee will be set up and they have three months to report back to the party. So, their action was against article 19 of the party’s constitution.
