The Nigeria Customs Service in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and other regulatory bodies, has intensified efforts to eliminate harmful pharmaceuticals from circulation.

This is as a large-scale destruction exercise took place at a dumpsite in Epe, Lagos, on Friday.

A statement shared on X on Sunday disclosed that this marks another step in the country’s fight against the trafficking of dangerous substances.

The statement added that the exercise was a crackdown on the smuggling of illicit and expired drugs.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Oluwaseun Oguntuase, who represented the service, underscored the grave risks posed by expired drugs and the commitment of Customs to combat their entry into the country.

“Many of these drugs are expired, and expired drugs must not be allowed into the country. That is why they were seized,” Oguntuase stated.

He lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, for strengthening enforcement measures, which have led to the interception of over 200 containers of contraband.

“It has given us a significant advantage over the smugglers.
