ABUJA – The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, met with the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier MIGNOT, as well EU Heads of Mission to ECOWAS at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The meeting focused on strengthening ECOWAS-EU collaboration, promoting regionalr integration, democracy, peace and security, and the future prospects of ECOWAS in the context of its 50th anniversary and the Summit of the Future , among other things.

A statement on Friday by ECOWAS Directorate of Communication said that the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Touray, welcomed the EU Head of Delegation and Heads of Mission to the ECOWAS Commission and thanked the EU for its continued cooperation and support to ECOWAS.

He underscored the need to preserve the unity of ECOWAS and strengthen the collaboration between ECOWAS and the European Union based on equitable partnership.

In his remarks, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot stressed the importance of ECOWAS as strategic partner and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with ECOWAS.
