The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has urged Nigerian Army commanders to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to effectively tackle insecurity across the country.

Oluyede gave the charge on Tuesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, at the opening of a four-day Senior Command and Leadership Seminar, organised by the 4 Special Forces Command in the Doma Local Government Area.

Speaking on the theme “Enhancing Operational Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment,” the COAS, who was represented by the Chief of Training, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Ndalolo, said working closely with security agencies, civil society groups, and traditional leaders was crucial in combating terrorism, insurgency, and other crimes.

He said, “These stakeholders are pivotal to addressing the prevailing security threats within your areas of responsibility.

“It is also pertinent that you strategically apply situational awareness and strategic communication skills when engaging these stakeholders, so that you can foster mutual respect and build teamwork.

“This integrated approach is not only key to addressing our immediate security threats. It can also contribute significantly to long-term national stability.”

The COAS added, “You all are advised not to rest on your oars. This is because the security challenges you are dealing with are dynamic. They evolve with time.

“So, as they evolve, your ways of thinking must also evolve, so that you can provide robust solutions that will meet their evolution in the board. I want you to remember this.”

Representing Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe commended the Army for its efforts to improve command efficiency and urged participants to maximise the seminar’s benefits.

“I therefore call on all the participants to pay special attention and utilise the opportunity availed by the seminar to share experiences, appraise and recommend appropriate measures in enhancing operational level command and leadership skills in the joint security environment,” he stated.

Commander of the 4 Special Forces, Maj. Gen. Hilary Nzan, noted that the seminar’s lectures were carefully selected to enhance commanders’ understanding of joint military operations and strategic decision-making.
