Abiodun Plans to Lower Food Prices and Boost Bus Services
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced plans to lower food prices through a bulk purchase scheme and improve transport services for residents.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has shared plans to start a government-backed bulk food purchase scheme. This scheme aims to lower the prices of essential goods. He also promised to increase the state’s mass transit fleet to help residents and workers with transport issues.
Abiodun made these announcements during a meeting with labour leaders from the Ijebu area in Ijebu-Ode. He emphasized his administration's focus on workers' welfare and policies that would improve living conditions for everyone.
The bulk purchase scheme will be rolled out through the planned Gateway Trading Corporation. This will help residents buy essential food items and household goods at better prices through government-supported buying.
The governor said this initiative came about due to the rising cost of living and was suggested by Comrade Hameed Ademola-Benco, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
He explained that buying in bulk would let the government negotiate better prices for important goods. This would bring some economic relief to families struggling with high food costs.
Abiodun noted that this plan could also spark competition in the market. Traders might lower their prices because of the availability of affordable goods through the government-backed scheme.

He assured the labour representatives that his government would make the scheme happen. He stressed that government policies should tackle the real economic issues that workers and residents are facing.
Transport Improvements
On transport matters, the governor promised to add more mass transit buses for government employees and the public.
He mentioned that this expansion comes from concerns raised by labour groups about needing more buses. This will help ease daily travel, cut down transport costs, and improve movement for everyone in the state.
Abiodun stated that enhancing public transport is a key part of improving workers' welfare and reducing the financial burden related to daily commuting.
