The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has stated that Nigeria deserves better governance. The party promises to restore the economy, boost security, and improve citizens' welfare ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Monday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, APM said it has a plan to revive economic growth, create jobs, strengthen the productive sector, and reform security to better protect lives and property.
Recently, on May 14, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and some members of the Peoples Democratic Party formed a political alliance with APM, led by Yusuf Dantalle, in Ibadan. This move is also in preparation for the 2027 elections.
On the same day, Makinde announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 elections. He later became APM’s presidential candidate on May 30. This has placed the party in the spotlight as a major opponent to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
The APM pointed out that Nigeria’s rising debt, the exit of multinational companies, high living costs, and the migration of skilled workers have weakened the economy and public institutions. This shows a clear need for a change in leadership.
The party said, "The Allied People’s Movement has developed a practical governance plan that will quickly revive the productive sector, rebuild critical infrastructure, improve the economy, pull the nation back from collapse, and restore dignity and comfort to all citizens."
The plan also aims to fix the broken security system and effectively address terrorism to ensure safety for lives and property across Nigeria. The party added, "It is tragic that in the last 10 years, especially the last three, the APC has governed Nigeria without a clear economic plan. This has led to careless governance filled with corruption and harmful policies."
This has caused severe economic hardship, high unemployment, soaring inflation, failing infrastructure, and widespread insecurity. The APM expressed worry about rising poverty, unemployment, and inflation. They noted that many families are struggling to afford basic necessities due to the increasing cost of goods and services.
The statement continued, "The cost of basic items and services has become too high, leaving many families in distress and unable to buy daily meals and essentials. In the last three years alone, reports say over 628,000 Nigerians have died, and more than 2.2 million, including children and women, have been kidnapped. The poverty rate now stands at an alarming 63 percent, with unemployment over 33.3 percent. More than 140 million Nigerians live below the poverty line."
The APM also highlighted that due to worsening insecurity, a failing public service, and rising inflation from heavy taxes, many multinational companies are leaving Nigeria. Over 3.7 million young Nigerians have left the country in what is now known as the ‘Japa’ phenomenon, leading to a serious brain drain, especially in education and health.
The party said, "We in the APM are worried that despite Nigeria's wealth and large population, poverty, unemployment, and inflation keep increasing. Basic items are now too expensive, making it hard for families to afford necessities."
They added that the future of over 250 million Nigerians is being threatened by the APC’s reckless borrowing, which has reached a staggering ₦159.28 trillion with little to show for it, as much of the money is believed to have gone to private interests. The APM stated that Nigerians are frustrated with poor leadership and want a new direction, claiming that APM is a valid alternative for the 2027 elections.
The party concluded, "The APM plan offers a new and transparent approach to governance. This plan prioritizes Nigerians by focusing on human development and well-being through people-centered policies and careful resource management, ensuring security, industrialization, youth employment, infrastructure development, efficient public service, and prosperity for all."
They emphasized that the APM plan is designed to put Nigerians back to work, attract foreign investment, and boost productivity in key sectors like oil and gas, power, agriculture, manufacturing, education, housing, and healthcare. The APM also promises strict measures against corruption and clear accountability to the people.
Nigerians can expect that the full plan will be revealed at the right time as the APM prepares to take charge of Nigeria’s affairs democratically in 2027.
