Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the only woman in the Nigerian Bar Association presidential election, has increased her lead in the race.

When we checked the live election results at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya had received 11,352 votes. This is 46.69 percent of the 24,314 votes cast in the presidential election.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, also a Senior Advocate, is in second place with 7,415 votes, which is 30.50 percent. Olumuyiwa Akinboro, another Senior Advocate, has 5,547 votes, or 22.81 percent.

The live results portal showed that 24,384 of the 82,165 registered voters had cast their votes, marking a turnout of 29.68 percent as of 9:54 p.m.

There has not been much change in the positions of the candidates since we last reported from the results portal at 4:15 p.m.

Out of the three candidates, only Mrs Badejo-Okusanya gained enough additional votes to raise her total share of the votes. The slight increase in the other candidates' votes led to a lower percentage share for each of them.

In about six hours, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya’s votes grew from 9,053 to 11,352, raising her previous share from 45.18 percent to roughly 46.69 percent.

During the same time, Mr Akangbe's votes increased from 6,253 (31.27 percent) to 7,415 (30.50 percent).

Mr Akinboro's votes also went up from 4,709 (23.54 percent) to 5,547 (22.81 percent).

As of now, the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association has not declared the final results, since voting is still ongoing.

This lead comes after several controversies that put a cloud over the election before voting began on Saturday.

The electronic voting is set to last for 24 hours from the start time.

Although it was supposed to start at 12:00 a.m. West African Time on Saturday, voting did not begin until 7:35 a.m.

This means voting is expected to end at 7:35 a.m. on Sunday, after which the final results will be announced.
