The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has asked Governor Douye Diri to lead in a way that puts Bayelsans first. They want him to focus on policies and programs that support development, boost the economy, and improve the lives of people in the state.

Dauprebo Ikuromo, the state Chairman of the NDC, spoke to reporters in Yenagoa on Wednesday. He urged the state government to “avoid attempts to entice NDC aspirants with financial incentives designed to create rifts within the party.”

Ikuromo also said, “No form of inducement can divert the NDC from its objective of assuming leadership of the state.”

He suggested that instead of trying to lure NDC members, such funds should go towards solving critical issues in the state. He pointed out the problem of the commissioned but non-operational gas turbines as an example.

Party Unity and Leadership

When asked about concerns of dissatisfaction within the party, Ikuromo mentioned that a complaint resolution system was set up under Senator Seriake Dickson's leadership. He said the party’s National Executive Council would soon announce candidates for various positions within the timeline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Ikuromo praised the National Leader of the NDC for his good behavior during the party’s primary elections. He described Dickson’s leadership as commendable, saying he handled the primary election process across the country fairly and wisely, making sure all aspirants had equal chances.

The Bayelsa NDC also acknowledged Dickson’s commitment to including youth and women in the party’s primaries. They said this effort aligns with principles of affirmative action and better political participation. The party Chairman noted that these policies are crucial for building a strong and inclusive political movement.

Finally, the NDC chairman urged party members and supporters in Bayelsa State to stay united and focused on the party’s goal of taking over governance from “a ruling party that has failed the nation.”
