Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have kidnapped some students at the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The students were taking their Biology exam for the National Examinations Council (NECO) when the attackers struck on Monday morning.

Daso Kenneth, the police spokesperson in Borno State, confirmed this over the phone to PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr Kenneth said a joint effort by the police, military, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) helped protect other students.

He noted that the exact number of students taken is still unknown.

Security forces are currently following the insurgents' trail.

"That’s what we know for now," he said. "But the military, police, and civilian JTF are currently in the bush, searching the areas for any chances of rescuing the hostages."

Azeez Sani, the spokesperson for NECO, told PREMIUM TIMES that the exam body was not aware of the situation and could not comment on it.

The 2026 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal started on Monday, 15 June, and will continue until Thursday, 23 July.
