The Kogi State Police have confirmed that gunmen kidnapped a school principal, one NECO ad hoc staff member, and four students. This happened at Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area while the students were taking their exams.

The attack took place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, around 5:25 p.m. The school was under siege as students were busy writing their NECO examinations.

ASP Salisu Oyiza, the Command’s spokesperson, released a statement on Wednesday. He said, "During the incident, four students, the school principal, and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers."

A team made up of police and other security agencies quickly started a search-and-rescue operation. They are currently tracking the kidnappers. So far, they have rescued one of the abducted students. They are still working hard to rescue the other victims and catch the criminals.

The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, along with the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser, are heading to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

ASP Oyiza added, "A more detailed press release will be issued as soon as additional verified information becomes available."
