Four people have died and two others are hurt after a suspected cult shooting in the Post Office area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The PUNCH found out that the shooting happened around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. A group of armed men stormed a bamboo bar near the railway line and opened fire on people there before they ran away.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed this in a statement on Monday. Its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said police quickly responded to the distress call and took the victims to the Police Clinic for treatment.

Adetoun said, "Police operatives promptly responded to the distress call and rushed the victims to the Police Clinic. Unfortunately, four of the victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently receiving treatment."

The police spokesperson said early investigations show the attack is linked to cult activities. She added that two suspected members of a dangerous cult group have been arrested in connection with this shooting.

"Initial findings indicate that the incident is cult-related. Investigations led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious and deadly cult group linked to the attack.

The suspects are in custody and are giving useful information to help ongoing investigations and identify other members of the gang," the statement said.

The PPRO also shared that tactical and intelligence teams are out to find everyone involved in the crime. She assured residents that they will do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.

"Tactical, intelligence and covert assets have been fully mobilised to track down every person connected to the crime. We are committed to arresting all suspects and ensuring they face the law," Adetoun added.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, reacted strongly to the incident. He condemned this senseless act of violence and said it threatens public peace and safety.

"The Command sees the incident as a serious threat to public peace and safety. We will not rest until everyone responsible is caught and prosecuted according to the law," Ojo said.

The police command expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. They also wished the injured a quick recovery and called on the public to stay calm and share any information that could help with the investigations.
