A former governorship aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State, Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has dropped her lawsuit against the party’s primary election. She has now expressed her support for the PDP’s governorship candidate, Prof. Isa Pantami, ahead of the 2027 election.
Kaltho made the announcement on Saturday. She said she decided to withdraw from the legal action after talking to party leaders and listening to an appeal from Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, a former governor and PDP leader in Gombe State.
Kaltho was the only woman in the race for the party's governorship ticket. She emphasized that her decision was meant to promote unity within the party.
"I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who advised me to withdraw from the legal action in the interest of party unity and progress," she stated.
Kaltho referred to Dankwambo as "a father and a leader whose counsel I deeply value." She said she prioritized the party's unity over her personal goals.
"The unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are more important than personal ambition. Every member of the party should remain committed to the collective goal of ensuring PDP’s success in 2027 and delivering quality leadership to the people of Gombe State," Kaltho added.
Pantami, who became the PDP’s governorship candidate through an affirmation process, praised Kaltho’s decision. He described it as a sign of maturity and commitment to the party.
"I sincerely appreciate Hon. Monica Yahaya Kaltho for her maturity, patriotism and commitment to the unity of our great party. She remains an important stakeholder in the journey ahead, and everyone will be carried along as we work together to build a stronger PDP and a better Gombe State," Pantami said.
To promote reconciliation within the party, Pantami visited Kaltho at her home. He thanked her for withdrawing from the lawsuit and promised to collaborate with all party members as they prepare for the 2027 governorship election.
