Governor Mbah Opens New Pharmaceutical Company in Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has launched Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, a multi-billion naira company located in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu.

The opening of this company is set to boost local drug production, create jobs, and improve healthcare in the country.

Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (Rtd), the Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, praised Mbah for making the state attractive for investment. He called Anchorage a legacy project aimed at creating jobs, developing local talent, and supporting economic growth.

At the launch event on Thursday, Mbah said that this facility is more than just a business. He sees it as an investment in public health, economic progress, and the future of young people in the state.

The governor congratulated the company’s founder, board, and management. He highlighted that starting a manufacturing business needs serious commitment and faith in the state’s economic future.

Mbah mentioned that the company would create job opportunities, provide internships, and help with skill development, while also improving healthcare in Enugu State.

He shared that the government plans to partner with the company to supply medicines to its central medical stores and primary healthcare centers.

Mbah also pointed out that the state is building 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centers, which will need a steady supply of essential medicines to work well.

“We want made-in-Enugu products, and that’s what you’re doing here,” he said. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to work with private businesses, beyond just creating a good environment for them.

He emphasized that private investment is key to the state’s growth, and it is important to keep skilled young people in Enugu by providing them opportunities to build their careers.

Earlier, Madueke described Anchorage as proof of his belief that private businesses can create jobs, expand economic chances, and improve wealth.

The former Chief of the Naval Staff and ex-military governor of old Anambra and Imo States said the company will focus on product quality, patient safety, following regulations, and strong corporate governance. He also recognized the role of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in protecting public health.

Madueke is confident that Anchorage will help develop Enugu State, the South-East, and Nigeria. He thanked Mbah for opening the facility and for building a strong, business-friendly environment.

In his closing remarks, the Managing Director of the company, Engr. Chima Madueke, explained that the company is based on quality and wellness, which is reflected in its slogan, “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”

He mentioned that the company has received all necessary approvals and clearances from NAFDAC and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), showing its commitment to quality.

Chima Madueke added that Anchorage will help fight against fake and substandard medicines in Nigeria. The company is also ready to supply directly to hospitals, healthcare institutions, and pharmacies.

The commissioning highlights the increasing role of private investment in the Mbah administration’s efforts to widen Enugu’s economic base. The governor assured investors of ongoing government support to improve the business environment and boost returns on investment.
