The Kebbi State Police Command has cleared the group known as “Sai Malam” of being a terrorist organisation. Their investigations show no evidence of any terrorism-related crimes connected to the group.

In a statement on Friday, police spokesperson Bashir Usman said they are aware of reports about the group’s activities in Argungu Local Government Area. They have started investigations based on reliable intelligence to check these claims.

The police explained that those arrested and charged in Zuru in February 2026 were investigated for criminal offences, not terrorism.

The statement said, “Those arrested in relation to the crime in Zuru last February were investigated for alleged criminal offences and not on terrorism.

“Items recovered from the suspects included suspected counterfeit currencies of various countries, including the Nigerian Naira, United States Dollar, CFA Franc and Libyan Dinar, as well as suspected ritual or occult objects and other related materials.”

The police added that no firearms were found with the suspects during the investigation. They remain dedicated to fighting all forms of crime and keeping order in the state. They assured residents that anyone involved in criminal activities will face the law.

The command called on the public to stay calm and help security agencies with reliable information to support ongoing investigations and improve safety.

This statement comes after worries spread on social media about the “Sai Malam” group returning in Argungu as a terrorist group. Reports also mentioned the February 2026 arrests in Zuru Emirate, adding to speculation about links to terrorism.

However, the police stressed that their investigations into the February arrests did not find any terrorism-related crimes. The suspects faced charges for criminal actions involving counterfeit currencies and suspected ritual items.

The command said the new investigation aims to confirm the recent claims and identify anyone linked to criminal activities. They warned against spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear.
