The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that a farmer, Azeez Garba, was killed in Isin Local Government Area. They have started an investigation to find out what happened.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ojo Adekimi, ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. He wants all available resources to identify and arrest those behind the killing.

This information was shared in a statement on Tuesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

The police commissioner called the killing “cruel, senseless, and unacceptable.” He assured the community that they are pursuing every lead.

The statement said, “The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and careful investigation into the brutal murder of farmer Mr Azeez Garba. His body was found on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, a boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.”

According to the police, early findings show that Azeez went to his farm but did not return home. His family and local vigilantes started searching for him.

“His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his lifeless body was subsequently discovered a short distance away with deep machete wounds,” the statement added.

The police said no arrests have been made yet. They promised the grieving family and the public that they are working hard to find and prosecute everyone involved in the crime.

“Every available lead is being diligently pursued. Investigators are working hard to understand what happened in this tragic incident and ensure that everyone connected with this terrible crime is identified and brought to justice,” the police said.

This situation follows an earlier request from the victim’s family for security agencies to look into the killing and secure justice.

Speaking with The PUNCH, Azeez's second daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said her father left for his cocoa farm but never returned.

She explained that local hunters later found his body in a nearby bush after they discovered his motorcycle at the farm.

“We want those responsible for this terrible crime to be identified, arrested, and prosecuted according to the law. My father deserves justice, and our family deserves answers. We will continue to seek justice until those responsible are held accountable,” she said.
