Lagos State Government on Tuesday shut down an i-Fitness Gym located in the Jakande Roundabout area of Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa. This was due to the gym's alleged illegal discharge of raw sewage into public drains.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office took this action. They announced it on the official X handle of the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

According to LSWMO, the gym was closed for allegedly sending untreated sewage into public drainage systems. The government called this a public nuisance and an environmental threat.

The agency noted that this activity posed serious risks to public health. It also mentioned that the gym violated environmental regulations.

They said enforcement action was needed to ensure that wastewater management laws are followed in the state. The statement included, "The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday 23rd June, 2026, sealed-off, Jakande Round-about, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via pipe, thereby causing public nuisance and environmental pollution as well as endangering human health."

The government reminded everyone that individuals and organizations must follow proper wastewater management practices. They warned that offenders would face penalties and possible prosecution under relevant environmental laws.

Officials also called on residents and businesses to adopt better environmental practices. This aims to reduce pollution and protect public health across Lagos.

The statement further said, "Lagos State government reiterates the need for the public to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, noting that any individual or organization found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the enabling laws."

Closing the gym is part of a series of recent actions by the Lagos State Government. They are targeting environmental violations across the state.
