The Nigeria Democratic Congress wants the immediate removal of Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President. This follows allegations linking him to a scandal involving a supposed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
In a statement from July 3, 2026, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party expressed shock over serious corruption allegations against Gbajabiamila and a man named Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the alleged PFIPC.
The NDC claimed that this non-existent agency was used to steal public funds with Gbajabiamila's help. They stated this raises important questions about the transparency and integrity of President Bola Tinubu's government.
The statement mentioned that Adeyemi claimed the PFIPC received money from the 2026 budget and opened several accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
"According to the allegations by Prince Adeyemi, the PFIPC received budgetary allocations in the 2026 budget and successfully opened a Domiciliary Account, a Pound Sterling Account, and a Treasury Single Account (TSA), all domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria."
The NDC found this confusing since the Presidency has said this agency does not exist. They wondered how an agency that the government claims is fake could open official bank accounts.
“The NDC finds it deeply troubling that an agency the Presidency claims does not exist could open multiple high-level financial accounts at the apex bank," the statement read.
“For an individual to open a domiciliary account, stringent documentation is required. How then was a fictitious agency able to open such accounts without the necessary documentation?”
The party asked if the Accountant-General of the Federation knowingly processed fake documents and called for urgent clarification from the Presidency.
The NDC also raised questions about staff approvals for the alleged agency. They expressed concern over claims that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff for this non-existent agency.
“The NDC wonders how such a significant administrative action could occur without the knowledge of the Presidency and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement noted.
The party continued, “Is the Tinubu administration so clueless and incompetent that major decisions bypass its principal officers?”
The NDC mentioned more allegations from Adeyemi regarding money demands and appointments. They stated it was serious that the Chief of Staff asked for 48% of the agency’s start-up grant of #27,395,510,136, a request that Adeyemi turned down, which led to a public disagreement.
It added, “Adeyemi further admitted that he fraudulently secured his appointment through the Chief of Staff for the sum of 600 million, with #400 million allegedly paid through proxies to the Chief of Staff, with a balance of 200 million outstanding.”
These allegations suggest a pattern of corruption, the NDC stated. They said these claims show that the current government has normalized corruption as a way of running the country.
The party also mentioned the death of Babatunde Tanimola and claims by Adeyemi about threats to his life.
“The situation is further compounded by the mysterious death of Mr Babatunde Tanimola, the intermediary between Prince Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff, who reportedly died in a fire accident at a hotel in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025,” the statement said.
They added, “Prince Adeyemi has also raised an alarm over multiple assassination attempts on his life, including a brazen attack along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on September 7, 2025.”
The NDC demanded the immediate removal of Gbajabiamila to allow for an unbiased investigation. They believe his staying in office is a conflict of interest and a threat to any investigation.
The party urged President Bola Tinubu to set up an independent panel to look into the scandal. They called for inquiries into the operations of the alleged PFIPC, budget allocations, account openings, staffing, and financial transactions.
They also want investigations into Tanimola's death and the assassination attempts on Adeyemi, along with protection for him and investigations by the EFCC, ICPC, and the Nigeria Police Force.
“The NDC will not accept the usual tactic of issuing a mere defensive press release from the Presidency,” they stated.
“Nigerians deserve to know the truth through a transparent process that promotes fairness and justice. The culture of impunity and the brazen sale of public appointments must end.”
The NDC is standing with Nigerians in demanding accountability. They insist anyone found guilty in this matter, no matter their position, must face the law.
According to reports, the Federal Government has rejected Adeyemi’s claims and insists that the PFIPC does not exist.
The Presidency, through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said investigations found that Adeyemi allegedly forged a presidential appointment letter. He also operated a fake government agency and opened many bank accounts, including some in names of non-existent government bodies.
Adeyemi insists that his appointment, the agency, and his activities are all real. The Presidency stated that Gbajabiamila reported this case to security agencies in October 2025, which led to criminal charges against Adeyemi and two others.
Concerns about the alleged agency had already been raised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, which insists that no such agency exists under the Tinubu administration.
