The Ogun State Government and the Nigeria Police Force are stepping up efforts to improve security in the state. They are focusing on fighting cross-border crimes to protect communities, businesses, and important economic assets.
This commitment was highlighted during a meeting between the Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West, Fayoade Adegoke, and Governor Dapo Abiodun. The governor was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, during the meeting at the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The meeting aimed to improve teamwork between the state government and security agencies. They discussed how to tackle new security issues, especially crimes linked to Nigeria’s borders.
Mr Talabi spoke at the meeting and stressed the state government’s strong commitment to keeping people and property safe. He said security is a key part of the government’s plan for development.
He pointed out that Ogun State is one of Nigeria’s leading industrial and commercial areas. Therefore, it is crucial to have a secure environment that supports economic growth and attracts investments.
He mentioned that the government has been providing support to security agencies with resources and logistics to help them do their jobs better across the state. Mr Talabi shared that the administration recently bought 65 patrol vehicles to boost the operational capacity of security agencies. He called this move part of broader efforts to keep communities and important economic routes safe.
The SSG praised the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and other security partners for their dedication to ensuring peace and security. He particularly highlighted the state’s Gateway Shield initiative, which has achieved significant success in fighting crime.
He emphasized that ongoing communication between security agencies and government officials is necessary. This will help ensure security strategies are effective against new threats.
Earlier in the meeting, Mr Adegoke pointed out how important Ogun State is to the country’s economy. He warned that any security threat in the state could have serious effects on national development.
The police chief expressed worry about the rising number of cross-border crimes. He noted that some criminals are taking advantage of weak borders to enter communities and commit kidnappings and other crimes.
He called for more focus on border surveillance and better operational abilities for security agencies. This will help them respond more effectively to changing threats.
Mr Adegoke said the success of the Gateway Shield operation shows how valuable government and security agency collaboration is. He added that these efforts should be strengthened to build on what has already been achieved.
He requested extra logistical support for security operations in tough areas along the border. He also pushed for more modern surveillance tools to improve intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
He thanked Governor Abiodun for his ongoing support for security agencies. He noted that the partnership between the state government and law enforcement has played a big part in keeping peace and building investor confidence in the state.
The meeting wrapped up with both sides agreeing to stay committed to intelligence-led policing, stronger teamwork between agencies, and ongoing collaboration. This aims to ensure Ogun State stays safe and strong against criminal threats.
