In a bid to support vulnerable citizens, 154,412 low-income households have signed up for the federal government’s Renewed Hope unconditional social security grant in Jigawa State.

Auwal Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, shared this news during a press briefing about the initiative's progress.

The Commissioner said the ministry started the first phase of payments in January and is now running the second phase. So far, 126,636 registered households across all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state have collected their payment cards.

Mr Sankara mentioned that the distribution is still going on, with plans to quickly complete the remaining 27,776 cards. This ensures that the beneficiaries get their social security support as planned under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The Commissioner noted that President Tinubu increased the grant from the previous ₦10,000 every two months to ₦25,000 for each payment cycle. Each household can receive payments for three cycles, totaling ₦75,000 per household.

"The President raised the grant amount to enhance the programme’s impact, aimed at helping vulnerable households improve their nutrition and boost their family economies," Mr Sankara explained.

"While the amount might look small to some, it makes a big difference in the lives of ordinary people and helps strengthen the small economy. If you check the working capital of local food vendors, tea sellers, and other small businesses, you will see how much this funding changes things in the community."

The successful implementation of the programme in Jigawa State is linked to the strong support of Governor Umar Namadi. The Commissioner praised him for his ongoing commitment to projects that help ordinary people.

"The Renewed Hope social security grant is just one of many programmes started by the President to improve lives and grow the rural economy. This federal initiative matches Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda for the state," the Commissioner stated.

Mr Sankara wrapped up by assuring the people of Jigawa State that both President Tinubu and Governor Namadi are dedicated to working together to raise the living standards of citizens and guide the state and country towards steady growth and prosperity.
