The Benue State Police have arrested seven more suspects linked to the killing of Alhaji Risku Mohammed, the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
Risku Mohammed was killed on June 26 by gunmen after he left a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area.
He and his friend, Yakubu Isah, were shot around Okukwu in Otukpo Local Government Area while heading home from what was said to be a successful meeting.
Three days later, DSP Udeme Edet, the police spokesperson, announced the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the murder of Risku Mohammed.
Edet released a statement on Saturday in Makurdi, saying that seven more suspects have been arrested.
"After ongoing intelligence gathering and detailed investigation, we have arrested seven additional suspects in this case.
"These arrests were carried out during intelligence-led operations by our officers as part of the continuing investigation," Edet said.
The police named those arrested as Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45.
Cletus Nwadiogbu, the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, praised the effort and professionalism of the teams involved in the investigation.
He assured the public that the investigation is still active and promised that anyone involved in the crime would be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
The CP urged the public to stay calm and support the police and other security agencies by providing useful information that can help the investigation.
CP Nwadiogbu also reaffirmed the command's commitment to achieving justice for the victims and ensuring peace and order in the state.
