The Anambra State Police have raided some criminal hideouts in the state. They recovered several weapons and arrested a 65-year-old secessionist and six other suspects.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, said this on Friday. The operation was led by the Violent Crime Response Unit on Thursday. This was part of the orders from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Ikenga explained that the security team acted on reliable information. They targeted known black spots and criminal hideouts in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, and Umudioka, Dunukofia LGA.
The operation led to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, a 65-year-old man in Umudioka. Six other suspects were also arrested. They are Chisom Okafor, a 25-year-old woman; Onyedika Moses, a 36-year-old man; Iruka Nwaonu, a 30-year-old man; Joseph Nwankwo, a 36-year-old man; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, a 32-year-old man; and Akanimo Orok, a 40-year-old man.
The police statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command has continued its sustained security operations and raids of criminal hideouts across the State, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and the Command’s intensified operational strategy against violent crimes, cultism and illicit drug activities."
Ikenga added that on the evening of August 13, 2026, the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo in Umudioka. A search of his home found an Army uniform and spent ammunition hidden in a black bag.
Preliminary information shows that Ogbuagbo has links to a gang pushing for self-government. He is now in custody for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to find out more about the items found and his activities.
On the same evening, the operatives raided another suspected hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of the six suspects mentioned earlier.
During this operation, the police seized a large amount of dried weeds believed to be Cannabis Sativa and other suspected illegal drugs.
The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command will keep using intelligence-led operations. They will continue strategic patrols and targeted raids to break down criminal networks, disrupt drug activities, and prevent criminals from having safe places in Anambra State.
The CP further ordered that the ongoing raids on criminal hideouts and drug-selling spots must be intensified and maintained.
